Round Up: ‘Nightmare’ Diesel and Gas Prices Skyrocket Across Wisconsin Thanks to Congressman Tiffany’s Costly Agenda

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin continues to see record-setting gas and diesel price increases across the state as a result of MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s five votes for Trump’s war-of-choice in Iran. Farmers, manufacturers, school districts and families are being squeezed by high prices, cutting into profits and budgets and making it harder to get by. Things have gotten so bad Congressman Tiffany is trying to shirk responsibility and lie about his votes to continue the war.

• The obvious: Farmers use diesel fuel for farm machinery like combines, tractors, sprayers and heating.  

• The new squeeze: Transport companies are adding new surcharges to move harvests. Some farmers report their usual transport rates have almost doubled, just as the diesel price has.  

• Farmers like Kyle Nilsestuen, a row crop and beef cow farmer in Arcadia, report current diesel prices are “right at the nightmare mark” before cuts to fall preparation have to be made. 

• “Think about your personal budget. You probably sit down once a year, hammer out your costs and figure out what you can get for the year. Take any of those costs and double it,” Nilsestuen said. “That’s your vacation gone. That’s less presents for Christmas for the family. For us, that’s our investment in the farm and the farm’s future.”

WISN: Gas prices break $5 a gallon in Milwaukee

• Overnight, a 12 News photojournalist spotted the BP gas station near Plankinton Avenue & St. Paul Avenue in the Third Ward and the BP near 12th Street & Highland Avenue selling regular fuel for $5.19 a gallon.

• According to GasBuddy, the statewide average for regular fuel in Wisconsin is about $4.45 a gallon. Sunday’s prices are up about 51 cents in the last month.

• A year ago, gas prices averaged $2.92 in the Badger State.
